Levels Advisor Robert Lustig, MD, explains what your glucose levels tell you about your health.
Several factors affect glucose, including:
- food/drink consumption (what and when you’ve eaten)
- stress level
- caffeine consumption
- sleep quality from the previous night
Dr. Lustig’s POV on glucose levels:
Fasting:
over 90 mg/dL = insulin resistance
over 100 mg/dL = prediabetes
over 125 mg/dL = Type 2 diabetes
Two-hour postprandial (after eating):
over 140 mg/dL = prediabetes
over 200 mg/dL = Type 2 diabetes
“What I care about,” Lustig says, “is you getting your blood glucose as low as possible because you got your insulin as low as possible. If you become insulin sensitive, your glucose will take care of itself. CGM is the best way today to get there.”
