A visit to Louisville, KY the first week of September, 2023, dredged up some seemingly paranoid bank employees. Cops were called but would they even bother to respond to a call about a man taking photos in public? And if they do, will they violate our rights?

Laws may vary but, generally speaking, in the United States, if you are in public you are legally able to photograph whatever you can see. Simply put, your eyes can’t be trespassed. Obviously there are some restrictions on this (i.e., bathrooms, dressing rooms, most courtrooms, locker rooms, etc.) but very few when you are in public. If you can see it, you can shoot it (this rule only applies to cameras.) This is not legal advice.
