Bringing some Vixen gameplay from the Commodore 64 today, and this one has one of the wildest backstories in 8-bit gaming. Martech released it in 1988 and the concept was basically an unofficial spin on the Tecmo arcade game Rygar, casting you as the last human on a planet overrun by dinosaurs after being raised by magical foxes who taught you to transform into one yourself. The actual controversy though was all about the box art, since the UK cover featured Page Three model Corinne Russell in a way that got the game refused by the Boots high street chain until Martech quietly swapped in a tamer cover. Over in Germany things got even funnier, since the title Vixen happened to sound just like their slang word for masturbation, so Martech rebranded the entire release there as She-Fox instead. Gameplay wise you are whipping enemies and collecting orbs to fill up a meter that lets you transform into the fox for bonus levels, and honestly the animation on both forms held up impressively well for the hardware. It really is one of those games remembered more for the drama around it than what was actually on the cartridge. Did you ever play this one back in the day or is this the first time hearing about it?
