Here is a Sega Genesis gem that a lot of people never got to play. Soldiers of Fortune landed in 1993, and despite the tough guy name, it is not a fighting game at all. It is a top down run and gun shooter, kind of like Gauntlet but set in a wild steampunk version of Victorian England. Here is a fun bit most folks miss. In the rest of the world this game was actually called The Chaos Engine. It was made by the Bitmap Brothers, a legendary British studio known for slick, stylish games, and this one has that signature moody metallic look and a great soundtrack. The story is pure steampunk chaos. A mad inventor builds a super computer that goes sentient, takes over its creator, and turns the countryside into a monster filled war zone, so you hire on as a mercenary to blast your way in and shut it down.
