This Killer Instinct SNES commercial takes me back to one of the biggest fighting game launches of the 90s. Rare built the original as an arcade game in 1994 for Midway, and by early 1995 it was already being called the undisputed king of arcades according to Electronic Gaming Monthly. When Nintendo brought it home to the SNES that same year, the hype turned into real sales, moving over 150,000 copies in the US on release day alone and eventually hitting 3.2 million copies sold worldwide. Nintendo sweetened the deal by bundling early copies with a soundtrack CD called Killer Cuts, which had this fun hidden extra where a stretch of blank tracks led into a secret bonus track most people only found out about through an issue of Nintendo Power. The commercial itself leaned hard into that arcade perfect angle, and honestly for 16 bit hardware the game held up remarkably well against its coin op counterpart.
