In 1965, the Vietnam War entered a new phase as the United States dramatically expanded its military commitment in South Vietnam. ITN reported from across the country as American forces moved beyond an advisory role and into direct combat. As US troops grappled with a new kind of warfare and Americans increasingly felt the conflict at home, South Vietnamese communities faced growing bloodshed and displacement. Presented here is a series of ITN reports covering the Vietnam War in 1965, as it was reported and understood at the time.
