Between 2000 - 2002 the British military intervention in Sierra Leone saw a series of high profile operations to repatriate hostages held by the West Side Boys and to bolster struggling UN special forces (Operation Palliser, Operation Barras). Widely considered a success under the premiership of Tony Blair, the above edit shows the amphibious delivery of troops to the edge of Freetown in November 2000, a richly pageantry display.
