In October 1966, ITN's Sandy Gall visited a small piece of Britain on the Mediterranean -- Gibraltar.
Geographically connected to Spain, the Rock has been central to a dispute between the UK and Spain for centuries; and in 1966, Spanish dictator Francisco Franco began making claims again that the Rock of Gibraltar should belong to his country. His claim brought all trade to a halt, cut off border traffic, and weakened the economy of the tiny piece of Britain on the edge of the European landmass.
While visiting Gibraltar, Gall reviewed whether it should remain British - looking at its strategic military importance in the nuclear age, its economy, and - crucially - what the people there believed.
The documentary was a part of ITN's 'Reporting 66'. 'Reporting 66' was a series of documentary reports from around the world, produced by ITN News and broadcast on ITV during 1966.
