Here I demonstrate a funny little strategy to "tower downwards." Instead of building a pillar of blocks straight upwards by jumping and placing a block below me, here I build a pillar of blocks(trapdoors) straight downwards by falling and placing a block below me.

If I recall correctly Cscuile had quizzed me on a similar problem forever ago. The question was something along the lines of "can you build below a ceiling, much like the one in the video, without falling to your death?"(heavily paraphrased I couldn't find the messages if I wanted to). Admittedly I had no answer, and it's been in my mind ever since. So earlier while trying to solve it using double placing, I stumbled across this silly way to do it. It doesn't solve his initial question, since this is 1.14+ and uses trapdoors, but I thought it was interesting nonetheless.

See the real question lies in being able to place a block directly below your feet. This is difficult for a few reasons, mainly that you can only place a block below another block if you're looking upwards at that target block. This means you can't place off of any block below your eye level, which is usually well over a block above your feet. However, by using the 1.14+(i think?) crawling mechanics, we can shrink our eye level to only about 0.4 above our feet using trapdoors. This very easily allows us to place a block below us.

I place a trapdoor on the ground initially to help line up my positions. Transitioning from standing to crawling seems to take a weird amount of ticks, so this just makes me fall into more favorable positions, allowing me to place the first trapdoor below the floor. After that we're already crawling though, so this isn't an issue. I just open the trap door for a tick, then close it, and then look straight up and place another. Even though we're technically inside the trapdoor hitbox, it'll still place below us. You could place any block after the first one, but that terminates the tower, so I just use trapdoors here to make it repeatable.
