On April 20, 2024. An officer from the West Bend Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was driving on the wrong side of the road and had a high-mount brake light out. The vehicle pulled into a driveway and two of the passengers (Taylor and Amber) ran into the house after the officer shouted at them to stay outside. The driver (Nevaeh) also exited the vehicle and provided her license to the officer. She stated that she had pulled into her driveway and admitted to drinking two twisted teas. Two other people began exiting the vehicle but the officer told them to get back in and they complied. Nevaeh said that she was driving on the wrong side of the road because it was full of potholes and acknowledged the fact that her brake light was not working. Nevaeh then began walking towards her house, saying that she needed to let her dog out. The officer told her to stay outside and grabbed her by the arm. She pulled away and tried to push the officer off of her. Nevaeh was pushed up against her vehicle before she calmed down shortly later, after another officer arrived. She agreed to stay outside and speak to the officers, but refused to do field sobriety tests. Nevaeh became upset again and her mother arrived on scene and was able to get her calm. The officer tried to ask her again if she would submit to field sobriety tests but she kept saying no. She was then secured in handcuffs, searched, and placed into a squad car. Taylor, one of the passengers that ran into the house came back outside to speak with the officers. She said that she ran inside because she had to use the bathroom and did not hear the officer telling her to stop. The two passengers that remained in the vehicle were asked to step out. They were questioned and officers allowed them to go inside without any citations. When asked why her eyes were red, Taylor stated that she was really nervous and that her eyes shouldn't be red. She said that she didn't have anything to drink and was questioned on if she would blow a 0.00 on a PBT and Taylor Stated she wasn't sure why she would have to. The officer explained that she had open cases and had a court order to remain completely sober. Nevaeh was asked one last time if she would submit to field sobriety tests, but she said “call my lawyer”. Amber, who also fled from the vehicle, came back outside. Officers did not recognize her and did not think she was involved in the traffic stop. Amber told the officers that “you cannot pull somebody over once they are parked in their parking lot”. An officer explained to her that she was incorrect and Amber went back inside the house when asked. While talking with Taylor, officers could smell alcohol on her breath and decided to arrest her for Obstructing and Bail Jumping because she ran inside after being told to stop. While at the hospital for a blood draw, Nevaeh asked multiple times to use the bathroom but officers denied her request. An officer told her that she was not allowed to go to the bathroom because she was resisting earlier but would get to use the bathroom at the jail. The blood draw later revealed that Nevaeh had a .150 BAC. Later in the day, officers learned that Amber was the other passenger who fled from the vehicle and went back to the house to question her. Amber stated that she did not hear the officer say stop when she was running inside but admitted to seeing the red and blue lights. Officers decided to place her under arrest for obstructing. The driver Nevaeh Was Found Guilty for OWI (2nd), and Resisting or Obstructing an Officer. She was sentenced to 80 days in jail and ordered to pay $2115 in fines and fees. Taylor and Amber were cited for Obstructing an officer, it is unknown if they were found guilty. Everyone else involved was free to leave without any citation.
