Esther’s original work 'Thought I Could Trust You’ won third prize in the Release the Song category of Guildhall Young Artists (GYA) composition competition, RELEASE 2026.
Rania, from Junior Guildhall, says: "This song is called 'I thought I could trust you' and I was inspired to write it when a situation with my friends occurred, causing us to stop talking - writing lyrics/music is essentially therapeutic for me. It took me about 6 weeks to create the track on logic pro (no loops). I used all my lunchtimes and after school time to work on it. It took me about three days roughly to write and perfect the lyrics. The song is in 6/8 - a time signature that I really like. Being given the opportunity to fully create a song that has a purpose is great and hugely exciting. My song has the structure of, intro, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge and chorus. As I was creating the track for this song, I realised how much work and effort is needed to make it perfect."
The category judge for Release the Song was Matthew Sheeran, composer, orchestrator, and arranger.
