Gael's original work 'Untitled’ won second prize in the Release the Notes category of Guildhall Young Artists (GYA) composition competition, RELEASE 2026.
Gael, from GYA Online, says: ""Untitled" is a song that I tried to make represent the feeling of working for something you've idealized and realizing that it wasn't as you had hoped. The middle of the song crescendos into a frenzy of 16th notes and intense arrangement, before cutting out right at the climax. It stops for a few seconds before continuing, with the next theme being the beginning theme just in a different key. The piece doesn't shift from its initial theme, which I did on purpose to keep it grounded. I tried to demonstrate a feeling of disappointment in the last section, but also hope, as the melody slightly changes before ending on a high note."
The category judge for Release the Notes was Tom Bruton, saxophonist and owner of Saxtet Publications.
