William won second prize with composition ‘Need Some Space’, in the Off the Page category for Guildhall Young Artists competition, 'RELEASE'.
William, from Junior Guildhall says: "Need Some Space is a piece taking inspiration from contemporary takes on jazz standards such as works by Robert Glasper and Terrence Blanchard. The idea behind the piece was to do a more contemporary spin on the classic head-solo-head structure seen in these standards, with a particular focus on more experimental harmony."
The category judge for Off the Page was Scott Stroman, Jazz Professor at Guildhall School.
