‘Edutainment’ can be a bit of a dirty word for some, but it’s more important than ever. Can thinking differently about this key genre help us to create better content in the future?
‘Edutainment’ – the industry term for that magic space where entertainment and education collide. It can be the bread and butter of kids’ media, but it has also been given a bit of a bad rap. If not done properly, it can feel clunky, awkward and even out of date.
The rise of technology has resulted in kids’ attention being pulled in a thousand different directions. Edutainment offers the chance to create, connect and collaborate, between media and classroom. It can help kids learn about, process, and engage with an increasingly complex and nuanced world.
So how can kids media creators best deliver this content? Who is doing it well and what can we learn from them? How can edutainment command the attention of kids in a busy and noisy world?
To answer these questions (and more!) we’ve convened a panel of international industry thought-leaders from across the public and commercial kids’ media landscapes. They will discuss what currently works in edutainment; share their own experiences building this content; and suggest key takeaways that creators can apply to their own projects in 2024 and beyond. Come join us for a productive and thought-provoking session to improve edutainment content for kids!
