"Funky So-And - So" by The Sugarman 3

So if you're into instrument-based music (which you should be), specifically The Funk, then you've probably heard of The Meters and Galactic. Your depth of knowledge might even go as deep as having an awareness of The New Mastersounds, Lettuce, and The Greyboy Allstars. And if you're really into the genre, then names such as Budos Band, Dumpstaphunk, and Soulive also could welcome names to the ears.
Well, no matter your funk-fanaticism, I'm gonna bet by bottom dolla that you haven't heard of The Sugarman 3. The odds increase though when I throw out names such scene vocalist as Lee Fields and Charles Bradley, who these guys have worked with. With a mere 28,293 Spotify monthly listeners, this New York City retro-funk trio is flying far too below the radar. And this my friends, gets me real excited.
"Funky So-And - So" sports an odd title and a dirty little demeanor. Guitarist Al Street's (who isn't officially part of the band) riff must be inspired by The Meter's Leo Nocentelli and I'd call you a liar if you told me Stanton wasn't behind the kit; that is a compliment of the highest order Ruby Albin. You're slaying it fine sir. About as filthy is Adam Scone on the Hammond B-3 and my only gripe is that I wish he was highlighted a bit more. And last but not least ya got Neal Sugarman - yep the namesake of the whole joint - absolutely ripping that sax.
This is a tasty-ass Thursday treat for ya. EAT UP!
