What about today's feature drove me to break the Rock With This code? A set of rules defining our differentiating factors, the most digestible being that we almost never post a track over 5 million Spotify plays. Has it happened before, yes, but only on special occasions. And yet even today, I leverage a "loophole" that assists in melting away my guilt.
The original "oh baby", off LCD's 2017 album 'american dream', is goddamn glorious. At 18 million plays the track stands severely under-appreciated - a theme that seems to define the greatest indie rock band of all-time. The people who get them, really get them. And yet, there are still far too many who think "LCD Soundsystem" is a type of new television console.
Today's version is an alternate version with only 170k plays (said "loophole") and while it's not quite as tight and clean as the OG, it's every bit as epic.
And what about it caused me to run amuck? Equal parts the mesmerizing driving synth intro, signature reverberated drum slaps, and per always, my hero James Murphy's soaring vocals. And if that isn't enough, at the 4:53 minute mark the band flaunts a tiny slice of their brilliance, shining their ability to elevate and emotion-shift on the drop of a dime. This my friends is so very LCD Soundsystem and this my friends is very much the reason they sit permanently in my top 5.
I simply cannot comprehend how more folks (meaning anyone with ears) haven't taken notice. Maybe it's all part of their mystique.
