"Who's There?!" by Decap

All the world is a game and all the people are merely players. At least that is what Decap’s latest release “Who’s There?!” would make you believe. The song is a looping anthem of the inner workings of a vast yet determined mind.
Nicholas Piantedos a.k.a Decap is best known for his collaborations with hip-hop legend Talib Kweli, lending his craft to such tracks as “State of Grace” and “Rare Portraits”. Yet he’s also cut a beat for Joyner Lucas, Hit-Boy, Locksmith, Zion I, Spose, Watsky, Smoke DZA, and J-Essential.
A San Francisco based beat maker by way of NYC and the northeast, Decap’s recent solo work focuses on knocking trap beats filled with EDM and electronic features. In this latest work, he defines his loop through haunting vocal samples and a deep bass drop expected from artists on Future Knock (also what he calls his genre), his current label.
The track’s use of a melodic piano and twinkling synths create an eerie, ethereal effect that help bridge the construction in and out of the mix. Like Decap's other standout works, “Yeah” and “Spazzn”, Piantedos knows how to establish and define the environment within his songs, where the space is bound within sound. “Who's There?!” calls out into an endless void where the infinite loop suggests an answer. Restless yet persistent, Decap’s vocalist continues her cry long after the last bar has settled.
