"It Ain't Easy" by Brother Ali
Curated by: Dane W. Iliff
Spotify: bit.ly/ItAintEasyBrotherAli
Genre: #hiphop
It ain’t easy when it’s real. Life and love ain’t all rainbows, waterfalls and trips to Tulum. Fuck Instagram for displaying this counterfeit image of perfection for us all to compare ourselves to. A silver platter of insecurity and unrealistic expectations pie. What we don’t see behind that screen are the struggles that make those rainbows shine brighter. The imperfections that make us human. You think real lovers just laugh, make love, and travel all the time? Hell no. You gotta fight through the tough times to keep that flame burning.
Just ask Ali Douglas Newman. The legally blind, Muslim, albino rapper from Minnesota. In a world where our society is one that teaches us to cover up our flaws with fake products and impractical role models, Brother Ali has always been about embracing what makes us real. Inspired by the MC Rakim, Ali sought out the Quran and writing of Malcolm X at a young age. He uses this foundation to deliver socially conscious and inspiring hiphop through overarching themes of hope and acceptance.
Brother Ali wants that real love, “not the one that need perfectness at all times”. “It Ain’t Easy” is an uplifting track that celebrates the journey of working through the struggles of a relationship together. Those beautiful ups and downs are what make us grow. The real path ain’t always easy, but it’s definitely a lot more fulfilling.
