Dave's Vintage Apple Tech gifted me an IBM 5155, AKA the Portable Personal Computer. I unboxed it last week and got it running on my channel using a known good power supply (after clipping a shorted tantalum and replacing a bad RAM chip), and I recapped it on Dave's stream Sunday.
There is still work to be done: the biggest item is to replace the broken amber CRT. I thought about replacing it with a white phosphor CRT, but then realized that is probably sacrilege... actually, @tombarber8929 offered me a green phosphor CRT for the cost of shipping, so that negates the need to buy a white phosphor CRT (at least for this project).
But then, my plans changed when I found something on Marketplace, and, after an eventful trip to Christiansburg and back, I have what might be the best hope of this 5155 becoming nostalgic again.
Did the green phosphor CRT survive shipping? What did I find on Marketplace? Will I be jumping for joy by the end of the stream? You'll have to watch to find out!
