This was one of my favorite songs of 1985 and it's from a band created by Prince, which was comprised of former members of The Time: Jellybean Johnson, Jerome Benton, and St. Paul Peterson, plus saxophonist Eric Leeds and Susannah Melvoin, who is the twin sister of Revolution guitarist Wendy Melvoin. The sound is unmistakably Prince, made even more spectacular with the addition of a symphonic orchestra arranged by Clare Fischer--I just love those smooth, mellow dance grooves that blend so well with the lush orchestra strings. The Screams of Passion peaked at #63 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 1985, but I strongly felt that it deserved to be a much bigger hit; it achieved bigger success on the Dance and R&B charts though, going to #10 on the Dance charts, and at #9 on the R&B charts.
