Subnautica 2 already has plenty of crafting materials, but there are also several unreleased or unused resource assets that could become important in a future major update.
In this video, I showcase some of the hidden or unreleased crafting materials connected to Subnautica 2, including Nickel, Bismuth Crystals, Diamond, Alien Metal, and more. Some of these appear to exist as unfinished game-file content, while Bismuth Crystals were accidentally placed inside the publicly released version of the game, making them one of the more interesting future-resource clues currently visible to players.
Important warning: this is unreleased, unused, hidden, or unfinished content. Final names, models, recipes, locations, crafting uses, resource rarity, and even whether these materials appear in the final game can all change before Unknown Worlds officially adds them.
The first material is Nickel. In the original Subnautica, Nickel was a major late-game crafting material used for advanced upgrades and deeper exploration. If Nickel returns in Subnautica 2, it could be used for stronger vehicle components, deep-sea upgrades, pressure-resistant systems, or advanced base technology. In the real world, nickel is commonly used in stainless steel, corrosion-resistant alloys, batteries, plating, and high-performance manufacturing, which makes it a perfect fit for advanced underwater survival tech.
Next are Bismuth Crystals, which are especially interesting because they were accidentally placed in the public version of Subnautica 2. Bismuth is one of those materials that looks almost too alien to be real, with colorful geometric crystal shapes. In real-world manufacturing, bismuth can be used in low-melting alloys, lead replacement materials, fire detection systems, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and specialized metal applications. In Subnautica 2, Bismuth Crystals could be used for alien hybrid tech, advanced electronics, radiation-related systems, or special crafting recipes tied to the planet’s weird energy cycle.
Diamond is another major possible crafting material. In real life, diamonds are extremely hard, which makes them useful for cutting tools, drill bits, abrasives, polishing, high-pressure equipment, and industrial manufacturing. In Subnautica 2, Diamond would make sense for advanced tools, drilling systems, reinforced equipment, mining technology, vehicle upgrades, or anything that needs to cut through dense rock, coral, minerals, or alien structures.
Then there is Alien Metal, which could be one of the most important future materials depending on how it is used. Unlike normal Earth resources, Alien Metal could be tied directly to Axum technology, alien structures, advanced power systems, hybrid human-alien crafting, or late-game story progression. It may end up being a rare material needed for the most advanced equipment in the game.
These unreleased materials could also connect to upcoming systems like the Sea Frog Chassis, Trident submarine, automated mining platforms, Superconducting Foundations, new biomes, deeper cave systems, and future story missions. If Subnautica 2 expands into larger late-game crafting, players are probably going to need more advanced materials than the early-game resource list currently provides.
That is why these hidden resource assets are so interesting. They may not just be random leftovers. They could be early clues for how the crafting system will grow as Subnautica 2 adds new biomes, new vehicles, new base technology, new tools, and deeper progression over Early Access.
