Here is one of the easiest places to find and farm large amounts of Coal in Palworld 1.0.
The location shown in this guide is the small central desert known as the Twilight Dunes, around the Anubis Dunes fast-travel point.
Anubis Dunes coordinates: approximately -127, -81
Once you teleport in, you only need to travel a short distance through the desert to reach several Coal deposits. My route takes you through roughly six to seven nearby nodes, making this an extremely convenient place to fill your inventory and immediately teleport back to base.
Coal deposits look like large, almost completely black rocks. They are considerably darker than ordinary Stone or Ore deposits and stand out clearly against the pale desert ground.
Bring a good pickaxe or a Pal with strong Mining suitability and break the deposits normally. The Coal nodes respawn, so you can return later and repeat the same farming route.
The Twilight Dunes are also relatively safe compared with many later Coal locations. There are a few Pals around the desert, but most of the time you can simply fly to the deposits, mine what you need, and leave without much trouble.
Coal becomes extremely important once you begin moving into industrial crafting.
It is used for things including:
• Refined Ingots
• Carbon Fiber
• Thermal Cores
• Coralum Ingots
• Advanced weapons, armor, Pal Gear, and production equipment that require those materials
Refined Ingots require 2 Ore + 2 Coal, while Carbon Fiber can be crafted using 2 Coal + 1 Flame Organ.
COAL VS CHARCOAL
Palworld actually has two similar carbon materials that are easy to confuse.
Coal is the naturally occurring resource mined from these black deposits.
Charcoal is created by burning Wood inside a furnace.
They are not completely interchangeable. Charcoal is primarily used for Gunpowder, while actual Coal is required for important materials such as Refined Ingots, Thermal Cores, and Coralum Ingots.
However, Carbon Fiber can currently be crafted using either Coal or Charcoal, although the recipes use different amounts.
Later in the game, you can automate Coal production using the Coal Quarry, allowing Mining Pals to produce Coal directly at your base instead of repeatedly visiting natural deposits. Current Palworld 1.0 sources place the Coal Quarry at around Technology Level 37, although many older pre-1.0 guides still list the former Level 53 requirement.
