The upcoming Scorpius Trenches area in Subnautica 2 is starting to fill up with brand-new crafting materials, resources, and harvesting mechanics inside the Experimental developer build.
And some of those weird objects we've been swimming past finally have names.
In this video, I take a tour through Scorpius and showcase several of the new resources currently being developed.
๐ GREAT JAW LEVIATHAN PEARLS
Those strange white blocks scattered around Scorpius appear to actually be enormous chunks of Great Jaw Leviathan pearl material.
You can swim directly up to them, break the larger block apart, and collect:
2 Pearl Chunks
That means Great Jaw Leviathans may be contributing far more to the Scorpius crafting system than simply being giant dead creatures decorating the environment.
๐ซ๏ธ METHANE BUBBLES
You'll also find strange grey bubbles rising out of the tar throughout the area.
When you swim close enough, they're identified as:
Methane Bubbles
Right now there doesn't appear to be an obvious way to collect them.
That could imply we'll eventually need:
โ A new harvesting tool
โ A specialized machine
โ A nearby base installation
โ Some other unfinished collection mechanic
The exact system isn't implemented yet, but the fact that these bubbles already have resource names strongly suggests they're intended to matter.
๐งช VOLATILE ACID
We've also already seen how Scorpius introduces much larger resource-processing mechanics.
In my previous video, I demonstrated using the SeaFrog Chassis to move oversized materials into the Resource Crusher and process them into Volatile Acid.
Add that to the pearls and methane, and we're starting to see a much more industrial harvesting system emerging.
๐ NEW ORES, CRYSTALS & MINERAL NODES
Scorpius also contains several unfinished resource deposits that currently appear to be:
โ๏ธ New metals
๐ Crystals
๐ท Gem-like materials
๐ชจ Large mineral nodes
Many still don't have finalized names or functions.
But combined with the SeaFrog's ability to move enormous objects, it looks increasingly likely that the SeaFrog will play a major role in gathering and transporting Scorpius resources.
This biome may involve much more than simply swimming around picking Titanium off the ground.
And as a bonus, I also showcase two new posters being added to Subnautica 2:
๐ผ๏ธ Community Poster 02
Featuring a Tadpole equipped with the Haul Chassis.
๐ค New Zezura Poster
Showing the planet Zezura imagined as a futuristic sci-fi cowboy pioneer settlement.
So between giant leviathan pearls, methane harvesting, Volatile Acid, mysterious new ores, and all the unfinished machinery appearing around Scorpius...
We're probably going to be doing A LOT of crafting.
โ ๏ธ Everything shown here is unfinished Experimental/developer content. Names, resource uses, harvesting methods, recipes, and even entire objects can change before Scorpius reaches the public build.
