Want to build a better base in Subnautica 2? In this guide, I’ll show you 12+ building and decorating tips that can make your base cleaner, smarter, easier to use, and much better looking.
Subnautica 2 has a lot of base-building tricks that are easy to miss, especially with portable storage, wall mounts, power transmitters, grow beds, object variants, move mode, and coming-soon storage options. Some of these tips improve how your base looks, while others make crafting, storage, power, and multiplayer organization much easier.
One of the biggest hidden tricks is that you can place wall mounts on the outside of your base. That lets you store portable storage lockers on the exterior of your base, and those same portable storage lockers can also dock to the back of your Tadpole. Even better, when the portable storage is mounted on the side of your base, your base can access the materials inside for crafting. That means you do not have to manually unload everything into normal storage before using it.
I also show the upcoming Storage Cache, which appears to be personal storage designed for multiplayer. That means only you can access what is inside, and your friends cannot steal your supplies. Finally, multiplayer storage can become less “shared survival” and more “please stop eating all my resources, Kevin.”
Another useful building trick is that some objects have alternate shapes or designs. If you hover over them in build mode while you have the same item equipped, you can swap between different variants. This is great for decorating because it gives you more control over how your furniture, objects, and base pieces look without needing a totally separate item.
If your base does not have a great view, you can also make one. Later in the game, grow beds let you add plants and visual interest around your base. This can help turn a boring window view into something that feels more like a custom aquarium, alien garden, or underwater display area.
I also show how to correctly power your base using Power Transmitters. The big trick is that you need to physically connect the power transmitter chain to your base. If it is not properly connected, the base may not detect that it has power and may ignore your transport tethers. So if your base power or tether system is not working, check the physical connection first.
