Episode: "Hide & Q"
Whilst running at high warp to aid an Earth colony in distress, the Enterprise is halted by a visit from Q. Boasting an irreverence for Captain Picard's motivation to complete his rescue mission, Q insists that mission take second place to a mission of his own; to explore how Commander Riker will behave once he has been given the power of the Q.
So Q has ended his "game", delivered his gift to Riker and left the Enterprise for the time being to continue with its mission to aid the Earth colony in distress. Riker all charged up with infinite power assures Picard that he can resist the temptation to use his powers but is then immediately handed the opportunity to restore the life of a child found dead at the colony.
