Episode: "Elementary, Dear Data"
Commander Data and Geordi LaForge visit the holodeck to play through a Sherlock Holmes mystery. It quickly becomes apparent that so long as Data has every Sherlock Holmes story memorised, there really can be no mystery, which as far as Geordi is concerned guts the whole point of the game. After a little discussion with Doctor Pulaski, Geordi places a challenge on the holodeck computer to create a Sherlock Holmes type mystery in which there is an adversary capable of defeating Data; the holodeck comes up with a great deal more that either of them bargained for.
Here Pulaski is ear-wigging on Geordi and Data's conversation; she is convinced that Data's inadequate appreciation for what drives human behaviour would make it impossible for him to solve a Holmes mystery that he hasn't read. Geordi is keen to have Data prove Pulaski wrong.
