My squidmates are inking the walls! How wonderful. I do my bit, of course, and even accidentally drag a Scrapper back to the basket. A couple of Flippers pose little problem too, and a couple of us take on a Stinger, Steelhead, and Flyfish without fuss. A Steel Eel gets angry about being led on a merry chase, but that's not our fault, then it's on to a bit of egg delivering, before focussing on the bosses once more. I choose splatting a Flipper over a Snatcher, the latter only having two eggs anyway, and help out with a Scrapper with its back to me. Then it's the end-of-wave race to stuff the basket to make it look like we didn't scrape through.
The tide comes in for the second wave, which poses a real threat to my having dodge-rolling Tetra Dualies. My first few rolls are fine, though, and it's missing a jump that makes me nearly hit the drink. I manage to dodge-roll in-and-out of a Lid's shield too, which is handy, but I get stuck in ink and don't think to roll when Flyfish missiles rain down. I'm revived and get to a safer position, where I help splat a Drizzler, moving on to a Lid. A Scrapper should be straightforward enough, and I dodge-roll to get my firing rate up, only to roll backwards in to a Steel Eel. So it goes. I'm revived and just about get away from some Smallfry, but the difficult shot at the far Flyfish bin doesn't land, the Splat Bomb sinking in to the water. But that's okay, as we're back to stuffing the basket in the final seconds.
On to the final wave, and I get more Dualies, these ones Dapples. At least the tide has gone out, so I'm less likely to roll in to water. That doesn't stop me aiming for a Stinger, right on the edge of the water, but I survive. I help with a Flipper and get out of the way of a Steel Eel thanks to a Lid, only to realise my Dapple Dualies can't reach to the Lid next to us. I get ladled for my slowness, but it doesn't really hurt. A Big Shot has appeared, so I head that way and make things easier by turning in to a Kraken, which really cuts through the bosses. I probably should use a second as two more Big Shots appear, but an Inkstrike flies in anyway. Eggs start flying towards the basket from the Big Shot cannon, and realising three of us are here motivates me to head back to the basket, where there really are eggs everywhere. Another final few seconds of basket-stuffing, and we complete the wave with a pretty decent tally. Woomy!

![Splatoon 3: Setting a decent score with a semi-squad in Eggstra Work [21-85-48-52-41, 63/1616]
My first attempt at this Eggstra work was with four randos, cos Im a rando too sometimes, and we bagged 162 Golden Eggs. Not terrible, and I had no previous experience to work on. The shift changed, and Reecey became availably, looking for squids. I hopped in to their squad, they seemed happy to have me, and we got to work. I got the Sloshing Machine, because I forgot you could choose. I was certainly happier with that than the Hydra Splatling for my first attempt, and really didnt want the Rapid Blaster.
This is our second run as a squad. The first easily beat my initial record, and there seems to be more room for improvement. Nothing much happens in the first wave, but its not meant to. As I am still new to this, I keep splatting Chum on the left rather than splatting the Drizzler on the right before it lands. But that doesnt hinder the squad in any way. The second wave is more important. The squad knows where the Goldie appears, which is good. Reecey knows how to use the Hydra Splatling, which is excellent. And we all have a good feel for holding back until the Goldie is closer to the basket. The squad also keeps the Goldie coming, rather than waiting for eggs to be dunked first. That lets us get a nice tally for the wave.
The third wave, and the first low-tide wave. The squad is happy luring the first few bosses, although I think the Rapid Blaster could head down to the coast to splat the Stinger a little sooner. Still, we splat bosses efficiently, keep the eggs hitting the basket, and dont suffer from many splattings. Another decent result, and we head back down to low tide for the Cohock Rush. We do well to balance being in cannons with collecting eggs, and quite how I escape a panning in the middle of a clutch of Cohocks is beyond me, but Im happy with it. It was a bit of a waste of time for one egg, though, and hopefully I make up for it by splatting a Maws by the basket. One last flurry of egg throwing, and we are on to the final wave.
Im still learning, so am pretty much treating the Run like any other, although I try to pay attention to my squidmates calls, which helps us splat the first Drizzler before landing. But then Im in to the mayhem of multiple Flyfish, somehow detangling myself from that to get nibbled by a Maws. I am revived and do well to hit the Steelhead to splat a couple of Snatchers too, but then get smacked in to the water by a Cohock. All this time in my rubber ring is time not spent collecting eggs. But at least the eggs are going in the basket, and as time runs down we prioritise that over splatting bosses. That almost puts an early end to the Run, but I manage to stay out of trouble for once to see us to the end, where we record a new high score. Woomy! And it feels like we can do better. ![Splatoon 3: Desperate defence in Tower Control [21(6)-6, Range Blaster]
Mmm, Tiramisu. And sinabär, a new Salmon Run buddy on the other team! Go easy on me maybe? I have my Range Blaster, to try to keep out of trouble, and thats what I do to start, only pushing up to try to catch a super-jumper. Not even my Range Blaster has that kind of range. The Carbon Roller appears a bit too close, but thankfully is scared away. I hide from their Trizooka and throw out a Wave Breaker that catches the Bloblobber as their aim their Killer Wail my way. Its all kicking off! The Tower looks clear, so I move up, only to be nearly splatted by the Carbon Roller, who thankfully has aim like mine. I get away, they get splatted, and I move up again to put some blasty pressure on the ledges.
I splat the bucket, which is good, and although the Tower stalls my squidmates get more splats that lets the push continue. I apply some forward pressure, which then needs to hit the sides, and I take over on the Tower as a squidmate is splatted. I keep riding as the battle rages behind me, although the Trizooka comes close to hitting me. I drop off, splat the culprit, and although the Tower comes our way, a bit of neat splatting and dodging lets me get back on again and keep things moving. A missed shot, however, sets me up for a splatting from sinabär.
My squidmates recover the Tower and the turf looks a healthy pink, so I super-jump back. I try to provide some rear cover, which doesnt quite work at first, then gets a splat, then stalls as the green team take control of the Tower. I jostle for position, and nearly get myself sorted, only to be undone by a Burst Bomb. So it goes. The green team approach the first checkpoint, but we have that corner covered, and their attack is repelled.
I see the bucket drop down the side and splat them, and wait for more opportunity. It looks to come with the Carbon Roller, but I get lucky with some poor aiming on both sides, helped out by a tasty dessert. Meanwhile, the Tower trundles on. I drop a Wave Breaker, and take over on the Tower, the Wave Breaker creating some room to move. I see the bucket coming and still miss them badly, which is unfortunate. Thankfully, they miss me too, and I get to ride the Tower a little longer. The same happens with the Bloblobber, except this time Im saved by a Dolphin, only to be splatted as I get back on the Tower. Still, we have a big lead, and theres not much time left in the battle.
The green team clears the Tower and recovers it, thanks to a Wipeout from us pushing for the knockout, and starts riding it back our way as we enter overtime. Defence should be straightforward with this time track to play with, and yet I still throw myself recklessly at the Tower before we even have any splats. There was no point in doing that! Instead, the green team get splats, and more time on the Tower.
I realise we have time, so I take some of it to look around. The Carbon Roller pushing forwards needs splatting, so I try to do that, and dont manage it, so as another Killer Wail comes in, I do what I can and throw a Suction Bomb at the Tower. Fortunately, that does half the job, clearing the Tower! Unfortunately, the green team get right back on. But its interesting to see that the Carbon Roller jumps off the Tower again, just when they need to stay on it, and an enterprising squidmate seizes it for the team, and the victory. Woomy! ![Splatoon 3: Steady progress in Tower Control [14(4)-5, Range Blaster]
An early exchange of bombs keeps both teams at bay, although the orange team are keen to get on to the Tower anyway. I sit back, looking for opportunity, before thinking about moving forwards. A drink gets my attention, but I still dont go far. Thats okay, as my squidmates do some splatting and get the Tower moving. I switch blocks and briefly play with the Squiffer, before getting closer to the Tower, where an opportunistic shot hits the Dapple Dualies. The Tower gets quite orangey, but I hop on to keep the push going, which doesnt seem entirely sensible even if I do get a few steps further to the goal. Maybe I could have kept my head down.
Argh! Something bit me! No, Im okay. A Splatterscreen provides good cover to hit the flank, where one inkling drops in front of my blaster, and two more snuggle close together. Nice! If only I had moved away from the Chicken. Still, a Wipeout is good for progress, and I super-jump to the Tower where again I am a touch slow to react. At least I necked a drink first. We find ourselves on the wrong side of a Wipeout, but with the Tower in orange turf, I think well cope. I hit the flank again, trying to be cautious about it too, but its just the wrong time to do it.
The orange team start increasing their score, the cads, even if it is far from threatening our lead. I move around the side and start shooting, and missing so many shots. But I hit a couple, and stay safe, which is something. My squidmates recover the Tower and push again, which I would like to help with, but Id like a drink more. And I cant reach! Finally, my thirst is quenched. I nip across the side, launch a Wave Breaker, and stop the Tower retreating too far. Falling off was not part of the plan.
Riding the Tower, I see trouble coming, and hop off at a good time. We get some splats and the pressure is relieved enough to hop back on. Or so I think! It wasnt. I ride the rail for a slightly quicker return, and help a squidmate being double-teamed by the Squiffer and Splattershot Jr, who we splat away as a duo ourselves. My squidmate shows their thanks by splatting the Douser Dualies, which is lovely of them. And thats another Wipeout. We ride the Tower and grab a drink each, and focus our attention on covering fire. It seems to work, the Tower moving forwards, with aa isolated skirmishe elsewhere in our favour.
I head the Tacticooler jingle, but see it up on the opposition ledge. Can I still get a drink? Yes, I can! Suitably refreshed, I saunter towards the Tower, getting a splat just as the orange team clear my squidmates from it. Thats cool, I can take over. Or just leave a Suction Bomb for the Dapple Dualies to find. That leaves only the Squiffer, and we trade a miss or two each before the Tower hits the goal. Woomy! ![Splatoon 3: Trying the Wellstring V in Splat Zones [10(2)-3, Custom Wellstring V]
Im giving the new Wellstring V a go, opting for the kit of the Custom version. I kinda dig the Tri-stringer, and am interested in how this one feels. And it feels really good. I like the different shooting modes, even if Ill constantly get my timing wrong, and how much it inks. Its range is compromised a bit, but it needs to be if it doesnt want to completely overshadow the Tri-stringer. Then again, having been given the Tri-stringer in Grizzco recently, I dont think I can go back to it after battling with the Wellstring. It just feels like a better weapon to me.
As for this battle, it is my first with the Wellstring and I havent worked out how best to use it, or what it can do. And having a couple on the other team makes competing for the Splat Zones trickier. I get some confidence after surviving the Rapid Blaster, though, and move to the central column after a while, but a couple of rampaging Hammers spooks me and I hide. I hide just when the Rapid Blaster comes looking for me, and I dont think they expect me to be at their toes. I am happy with that splat, but less happy missing my jump back to our ledge, something the Heavy Edit Splatling punishes me for.
I return to blue Splat Zones, and a Wellstring coming for me. I almost do okay in applying pressure and avoiding them, but they pull out a Hammer just as my momentum carries me in the wrong direction to leap the gap. So it goes. Another short outing the next time as well, as I focus on the Wellstrings to the right, only for the Rapid Blaster to get me stuck in ink and follow-up with a splat. Thats the kind of splat that I find frustrating, but never mind. Here I go again, showing more care about the central column, and using the full charge of the Wellstring to my advantage. This time, the Rapid Blaster doesnt get to make the jump.
I do well to keep the column clear, and a Wave Breaker catches out an inkling. I manage to avoid the Rapid Blaster trying to flank me too, and that also lets me spot the Heavy Edit Splatling dropping down at the side. I keep an eye on them, even if not really doing too much directly, but as the Splat Zones are yellow and stay that way I feel okay to do it. I switch angles again after that, and even push forwards as our position hold strong. I throw a Wave Breaker on to the other teams ledge, and finally remember my Point Sensor sub weapon, just when no one needs it.
With my squidmates applying pressure on the blue ledge, and a couple of decent splats from me, almost turning in to a triple, the blue team struggle to get close to the Splat Zones, and we secure a knockout victory. ![Splatoon 3: Grappling with Grillers in Salmon Run [33-28-36-xs, 21/1380]
Gotta ink those walls! Gotta splat the Smallfry too, if you have a Roller, which I do. Oh, and watch out for the Grillers maybe? Fifteen seconds in and were down to one squid. A nicely tossed Splat Bombs gets us back up, and I focus properly, splatting the Grillers first, and taking care of the Smallfry for everyone else. I still get splatted, because we remain a bit of a shambles, but an Inkjet revives us, before I run away, luring the Grillers away from the basket and the eggs. I take one for the team, which apparently the team dont realise and get splatted too, but we meet quota and just about survive the wave.
The second wave gives me the Splattershot Jr, so I can properly ink the walls. I let a squidmate splat one Fish Finger, which seems to take a while, and I move on to the second. I look to stay up there to splat a Flyfish in peace, but a Stinger has other ideas, and I have to move on. I help splat the Stinger, a Maws, drop a Snatcher, and manoeuvre to redirect a Drizzlers missile back its way. A Steelhead is lingering, a squidmate needs help, and more Maws appear. We have too many Flyfish, though, so I try to help there, only to find myself alone. No problem, I throw a Splat Bomb and drop a Splashdown on top of an obstinate squidmate waddling away from me. That clears some turf, but its still a bit hectic, and we need eggs. I get splatted by a Chum next to the basket, but my now-revived squidmates make sure we hit quota.
On to the third wave, and we get more room to move. But the skies go dark again, and we have Glowflies. After Grillers, Im not sure about this. But Im talking to two squidmates, and call them across, before showing them about the two-ledge hop that helps ease some pressure. We have a Flingza Roller too, which is pretty powerful here, but our rando has it, and isnt quite as au fait with the slow drag required for optimum performance. We can work with it. Maybe all the leaping isnt that efficient, instead of splatting all the salmonids, but it gives time to offload eggs, which is ultimately what we need, and after a bit of initial confusion we sail through the wave. Nice!
But its not over, as Horrorboros is sighted! I have no idea whats happening to start, but soon get in to the swing of things, and fall off the ledge. That just puts me closer to the eggs, if not Horrorboros. But moving to Boros finds more bosses, which means more eggs. I have to splat them, though, which I try to do, making a bit of a meal of things. All the while, Boros just flies overhead. I get back in to range, and do the classic move of throwing a Splat Bomb and not an egg, but never mind. I reorientate myself, get one egg on target out of five, and, I think its fair to say, almost forget I have a Splashdown. But I remember, and start hitting my egg throws, and with time running down I just start blasting at the mouth-bomb. Coupled with an squidmate hitting with an actual egg, its just enough to get us a single silver scale. Woomy! ![Splatoon 3: Sloshing for the Snipewriter in Splat Zones [20(7)-5, Tri-slosher]
Inking our Splat Zone seems like a good start, but unless we can do something about the Snipewriter on the perch we wont score much. As it happens, a squidmate gets to the charger first, which is fine by me, and its only moments later before we have both Splat Zones captured, and the purple team have a negative score. Nice! Tidying up a bit and pushing forwards has my running dangerously in to the Aerospray, which I somehow survive. I move from there to where the Snipewriter has positioned themselves, only to be beaten to the splat again, which is also fine, so I drop down and tend to the Splat Zones. We lose them for a moment, which is enough to give us a buffer, and in trying to recapture them I run in to the S-Blast 91. I think I was on borrowed time anyway.
I return to splat the .96 Gal away, but really push my luck by simply charging forwards to an unreachable Snipewriter, rather than using any guile whatsoever. I get splatted, of course. I return to splat the S-Blast 91 on landing their B-bomb, and this time try to be a bit more subtle about pushing forwards. It gets where I was targeted, which is good, but when I do push forwards I slosh too hopefully for too long, and the returning S-Blast 91 splats me in revenge. At least the Splat Zones are yellow, and our score is ticking over.
In trying to keep the Splat Zones yellow I get run over by a Reefslider, which is unfortunate, and before we know it were pushed back deep in our turf, unable to make much progress. I tease this way and that, and try to find a way forwards. Getting a splat helps, and a squidmate helps protect me with a second. The Snipewriter looks vulnerable after that, and they become the third splat. After that, the Splat Zones need some attention, which I do for one of them, but turn my attention towards the returning purple team. I scramble up the perch, miss the Aerospray, and flop back down, where I find them.
The Splat Zones are yellow again. I take a brief break, which looks like hiding. It also finds me the S-Blast 91, which is unlucky for them, but I still cant reliably hit the Snipewriter on their home perch. I retreat, and turn back as a squidmate whips out a Trizooka. They get a good splat, some Toxic Mist slows down another inkling to be splatted, and despite the Aerosprays moves I manage to catch up and splat them too. We ink the Splat Zones, getting our score ticking over again, and I push forwards to apply some pressure. That doesnt work too well when I wait for the S-Blast 91 to finish launching their B-bomb, and another inkling comes along to splat me. So it goes.
Were close to winning the battle when the purple team turn the Splat Zones around. I slink along the side to return with some measure of stealth. It seems to work, as I manage to splat one inkling below me and just about dodge the withdrawing Snipewriter. Inking the Splat Zones puts us back in a winning position, and pushing forwards finds the Aerospray looking in the wrong direction. The Snipewriter is looking at me, but I just give them a few sloshes to let me get away more than anything, and finally splat them up there. Nice! A squidmate saves me from the S-Blast 91, which is nice, and after that I just enjoy the view for a bit, as time ticks down. Woomy! ![Splatoon 3: Last-minute drama in Tower Control [19(6)-7, Range Blaster]
I dunno how that Suction Bomb splatted someone, but then again Ive managed to not see something as big on too many occasions. The Tower isnt moving, though, and Im not going near it with all the blue ink flying around. That Hydra Splatling is causing problems, but how do you get near to it? The blue bucket has an easier time getting close to us, and although I get a lucky shot to splat them, I fall backwards off the ledge, thankfully on to more turf, allowing the blue team to get the Tower going. And as I scramble back up, the .96 Gal is there to pick me off with ruthless efficiency. I try to return down the side, where blue turf looks ominous, but the Zipcaster flies past me. I ignore them, approach the Tower from the side, and turn it around.
I leap off the Tower as I see movement ahead, and try to use some good manoeuvres to get close. It mostly works, and I splat the Luna Blaster, before pushing forwards to catch the Hydra Splatling back in their overwatch position. That lets my squidmates move the Tower forwards nicely. I squid around, looking for more opportunity, and find it on the level below, catching the bucket flopping around. I surge up to the Tower, where I have no idea whats going on, and am updated quickly. I leave a Suction Bomb and run away, splatting the Luna Blaster again, but without keeping the push going. I try to catch up with the retreating Tower, only to run straight in to a Splattercolour Screen, then the bucket. So it goes.
I return without much aim, but help with an assist against the Luna Blaster. That trajectory puts me to the side, behind cover from the Hydra Splatling, who looks to threaten the Tower once more. As I watch, a Kraken appears, which Im happy to hide from and, very much unlike me, happy to see. It gives the blue inklings behind it undue confidence that it is safe to come forwards, and if I had a better first shot the Hydra Splatling would pay for that quicker than they do. But they still do. I have to run from the Luna Blaster, which I do, but they keep looking for me. Only a lucky hit stops them. My squidmates stop the Tower, so I turn around and find myself in the middle of the Hydra Splatlings spray. I nearly splat them, but thats not quite good enough.
I risk a super-jump back, which has my squidding away from the Tower quickly. I dodge a Splattercolour screen and get back up to the high turf, only to miss the bucket in the back, and have them turn the tables with some good swimming. Were wiped out, but the Tower is in blue turf, so we have plenty of time to recover. We still take a pretty defensive stance, not wanting to get too close to the blue onslaught approaching. My tactic to throw Suction Bombs gets a splat, but it also drains my ink tank, and I could have used more ink when under the Tower. Thankfully, my squidmates stop the Tower just before we lose the lead, and I return having not learnt my mistake, happily throwing Suction Bombs. To be fair, I get a splat and ration my ink well enough to also get another by blasting, contributing to a Wipeout that just about maintains our lead.
We ride the Tower away from our turf, and in to blue turf. I throw out a Wave Breaker that bags me a splat while I try to hide on the Tower from the Hydra Splatling. I get quite far! I jump off, looking for a visually impressive splat, but just looking like a normal jump, and hop back on the Tower to increase our lead nicely. Another jump to try to close the range to the Hydra Splatling doesnt go well, when they are pointing at me with a full charge ready. I dont super-jump back, which turns out to be a decent move, as I get to the Tower as my squidmates are splatted off, having ridden it further. I try to hop on and blast away the .96 Gal threat, but fail to hit my mark. But with no time left, and even with the blue team securing a Wipeout, the battle is won when they forget to stick to the Tower in overtime. Woomy! ![Splatoon 3: Dealing with Joe at high tide Sockeye Station in Salmon Run [31-42-37-xs, 26/1336]
A first-wave Inkjet to deal with two adjacent Stingers seems an overreaction, but its effective and Im not going to judge. I just grab a couple of eggs and blast my way back towards the basket, pausing to miss a Fish Finger and unintentionally dodge a Maws. I get to the basket and wait for the Maws who has lost interest in me, but splat her anyway, and move on to a Lid a squidmate drops. That lets me see the Big Shot who two of us splat quickly, and freeing up the cannon for egg shots. Back to the basket, where a squidmate is revived with an Inkstrike, another interesting choice, and I decide to head down to a Stinger, given that I have the blaster. Or I would, if I wasnt splatted by said Stinger. Its not just me either. Were dropping like flies, and I cant attract the attention of the last inkling standing, so I just wait where I am until they find me. Its a little touch-and-go, but we make it to the end of the wave.
The second wave gives us Mudmouths, so this should go better. I have the E-litre 4K, so I keep the Cohock population under control, and deliver any eggs I can get my tentacles on. Having more room, not being high tide, makes things less frantic, and we still cram a good number of eggs in to the basket. It was certainly more relaxing than the first wave.
Speaking of high tide, thats what we get for the final wave, and I have the Splattershot Pro to deal with it. Our Inkjetter pulls out their second for two more adjacent Stingers, which kinda feels like they always had a plan, and we get half-a-dozen eggs out of it. A Maws at the basket delivers, once I get a Cohock off my back, but a Chum is tolerable as I splat a Fish Finger. Things escalate again when three Stingers appear, and I cant reach them. One is splatted by a squidmate, but my procrastination gets me properly stung, and were down to one once more. Were all revived, inkling by inkling, and kept up thanks to a Wave Breaker, and some last-second stuffing gets us safely through the Run with a nice total.
But were not finished yet. Joes coming! And at high tide. That doesnt give us much room to play with. I get the Flingza Roller, which doesnt feel useful against Joes wart, so its good a squidmate gives us two Scrappers worth of eggs to lob at it instead. Im targeted next, and I just drag Joe on to Cohocks. I do what I can with the Roller, but aim to splat eggs conventionally rather than swat at the red patch, which kinda works but I also land in the drink. The extra Inkjet is activated to excellent effect, reviving me, clearing turf, and splatting a Steelhead, if only we werent so far from Joe. I head back Joes way, and use a Dolphin on a Drizzler, getting more eggs nearby, only to get swallowed by Maws, or mini-Joe. But never mind. More eggs! And right next to the red blob. Joe disappears before I can launch too many, and I get sidelined for the next lunge, but I get in to a good position for the next. And Joes fate is set. One more lunge and Joe is vanquished. Woomy! ![Splatoon 3: Low tide to high tide Salmonid Smokeyard in Salmon Run [34-37-37-xf, 38/1254]
Low tide, lets go! And its foggy. Thats fine. A Flipper can be seen clearly enough, and a Fish Finger poses little problems. The Maws climbing it is another matter, but I just run away, leaving a Splat Bomb behind. A Goldie is being shepherded nicely to the basket, for a measly one egg, and a splatted squidmate is neatly revived by our Tri-stringer before I get close. Back to the basket and up on a Lid, before I ink another Fish Finger. Trying to get up it has my squidding right in to a Flyfish missile, though, which was silly. Im revived and splat the Fish Finger as I hear a couple of Goldies being splatted below. There are lots of eggs down there, but also lots of salmonids. That causes a couple of squidmates to get splatted, so I focus on reviving them, then try to cram a couple of last-second eggs in the basket. We left a lot on the floor, but we get through to the second wave.
Its still low tide, and I get to the basket just in time to be launched. Nice! A couple of Scrappers wander up to congratulate me, which is nice of them, but a lazy Big Shot doesnt want to. Thats a paddling! I head back to the basket as eggs fly that way, and splat a Fish Finger while Im there, moving on to a second, where Im chased by a Maws. That interrupts my splatting, and drains my ink tank so I cant revive a squidmate. In turn, Im splatted. A Crab revives me, and things look busy enough that an Inkstrike wouldnt be amiss, which clears the turf well enough. We dunk eggs, hit our quota, and I sacrifice myself for one more egg, not quite realising I had ages to get clear and throw it. Never mind, on to the final wave!
The tide comes in, and a Goldie is hiding. Im happy to let it come to us, where we splat it and start dunking eggs, but we could also find the Goldie again, which we do. It wanders across the water, and once it hides I start looking for it again. Having eggs across the water is inconvenient, but I get back to transport them in to the basket, and we hit quota without issue. We get Goldie out of the gushers one last time, but cant tease many eggs out of it, but weve had a good wave overall.
Were not finished! In comes Cohozuna, and at high tide. Zunas after me to start with, but I dont mind the attention. Zuna moves on, and I do too, going up a Fish Finger and managing to avoid a Flyfishs missiles to get three more eggs to launch at Zuna. That gets its attention, and Im headbutted off the Finger. I sense things not quite going our way and head across the water just as Im the sole inkling standing. Part of me wants to keep splatting, but I need to revive my squidmates. An Inkstrike does the trick. I get back to splatting. Zuna tries to squish me, and somehow I keep moving, and think that maybe I should get back to the other side of the water, where there are more eggs. The good thing is that I can hit Zuna from there, and Zuna is encouraged back anyway. I get a few more hits in, but the eggs start to dry up, and, more to the point, the turf is becoming stuffed with salmonids. I keep shooting, but we dont quite do enough to splat Cohozuna. ![Splatoon 3: Somehow better as three in Salmon Run Eggstra Work [21-27-22-25-29, 47/1189]
Eggstra Work felt pretty rough this time out. I was happy getting the Explosher, as it can be a tricky weapon to wield, but its also powerful. If you know what it can do. For a start, it can ink walls with great efficiency. Im slow to start in this Run because our Explosher isnt inking the walls. And also because Ive been given the Octobrush. Oh, and we start with a squad of three instead of four. But never mind all that, I suppose. I suck up the circumstances, ink some walls, and try to get my first clearance of the shift.
Im not expecting much, to be honest. I havent got to the fifth wave yet, with full squads and me with the Explosher. At least our Explosher knows that they can splat Mudmouths without needing Splat Bombs. But I have another problem. I get a phone call that needs my attention. I answer it, put it on speaker, and do my best to resolve some remote tech support. It only occupies my attention a little, and we make it through to the third at the expense of only one splatting.
In the third wave, Im mostly focussed on survival. Splat the bosses, get to the next wave. I dont think its too difficult, but if the multitude of Stingers arent splatted quickly they can really cause problems. I find this out again, as I struggle to get out of the Big Shot corner. I am almost thankful I have a brush, as I can run away from the attention, and then a bit of ink rail hopping splats the final pot of one Stinger, lets me revive a squidmate, and move on to the other two Stingers, if a bit late to influence much about the wave.
In to the fog for the fourth wave. Again, I just want to get to the fifth wave. Im not looking to set a high score. As such, I whip out a Crab to splat the Big Shot, and maybe a second, although perhaps linger a bit too long at the cannon. It lets me splat a Lid, I suppose, but those are pretty low threats. I get back to the basket to finish splatting a Fish Finger and to dunk eggs, enough to get us to the final wave, if only we can stay unsplatted. Thats made harder by that ink rail that keeps trapping me when I am trying to jump. Im revived, at least, and concentrate on survival, almost thwarted again by the same ink rail, but we make it.
Here we go, the final wave! Its low tide, and entirely new. Ill just have to cope with what comes as if it was a standard wave of Salmon Run. I deal with the Big Shot, some Stingers, and a Fish Finger, before wasting ink on a Flyfish that our Explosher has got covered. That mires me in goop and gets me eaten by Maws, which is a silly mistake, and despite being revived I am splatted again too soon, being stuck between a Chum and Scrapper. I think thats my inexperience with the Octobrush. My squidmates are staying up, which is good, and a Wave Breaker brings me back, letting me stuff the basket full of eggs. I get a return phone call as the wave is ending, causing another unnecessary splatting, but we made it. My first successful Eggstra Work this time out. Its not a high score, but getting through to the end is worth more at the moment. ![Splatoon 3: Battling against the tide in Tower Control [11-8, Carbon Roller Deco]
That E-litre 4K has got us covered from the off. Im not about to dive in to the open pit without ink for cover, so Im not sure what I can do apart from keep the charger shooting to deplete its tank. Oh, I suppose I can splat the .96 Gal that has moved up under the chargers cover. I can then move on the Tower, which is crawling closer to us. But I muck up what isnt much of an ambush to start with, and am splatted quickly as Killer Wail tendrils close all over me. At least it provides an opening for my squidmates to follow in behind, even if briefly.
Now I dive in to the pit, and try to hide on the central column. That lets me get on to the Tower and start moving it. A lot of inky pressure comes in, hopping off relieving a bit of it, but finding more in the .52 Gal ahead. I reclaim some turf on my way back, and set up an excellent ambush on the returning Tower. That fails spectacularly badly, and Im splatted by a bystander, which is disappointing. I stumble on a potential splat as I return, a blue inkling pushing deep in to our turf, neither of us expecting the other to be there. They retreat, I press on, which plays in to their tentacles, as I find myself immediately surrounded.
I take the high road back, which doesnt seem to be necessary as I progress, so I drop down and ink some turf. Here comes the Tower again, and I hear a Kraken somewhere. I decide to hide, which is thwarted by a pesky Killer Wail, and I cant salvage any dignity by getting a splat before Im splatted again. My squidmates turn the Tower around, which is good, so as I return I sneak past them and wait for an opportunity to spring a trap. I find perhaps the opposite of that moment, popping over the ledge just as someone is coincidentally shooting my way. And all my squidmates get splatted, halting what little progress we made.
I am first out of the blocks to repel yet another attack, and I see the .96 Gal coming close. I can just about squeeze past their Splash Wall, but my lacklustre aim this battle lets me down again, although I get the splat before I am once more splatted. My squidmates are doing better! They get more splats and stay unsplatted, recovering the Tower and riding it forwards. I go to join them, looking to see if a squidmate needs support against the E-litre 4K. They dont. So I once more push forwards, this time in to a power vacuum, my squidmates having secured a Wipeout. Nice!
Were in a good position. Im in a good position. Im pressing forwards with turf to work in. I hide a bit, but poke out to get one splat, whip out a Trizooka to get a good long-range splat, and a second closer in. I dont see the fourth inklings whereabouts until its too late for the third shot, but I get close and splat them too, just not in time for it to technically count as a Wipeout. But I think I have finally contributed positively to the battle. My squidmates ride the Tower in to the lead as I return, and although they are splatted soon after it is an excellent result.
I head back, get one sneaky splat, and chase the Tower backwards to get one more and have a squidmate clear the Tower. They ride it forwards again as I press in to blue turf. My targeting is a bit off this time, but I manage to stop one inkling from climbing the Tower, and I take over when everyone else is splatted, proving enough threat to discourage the blue inklings from challenging my authority, and trundling the rest of the way to the goal as my squidmates super-jump back.
