I wanted to wait until numbers dropped at York Community Woodland parkrun before I visited so I headed over for event number 6 to check it out. This is a flat and fast lollipop course (two laps of the lollipop!) and despite being on trail you will need shoes with decent cushioning, probably road shoes all year round as it's run on extremely hard packed paths.
The team here are so wonderful! Exuding community spirit they already have a really great vibe and if you're visiting then make sure you visit Dobbies for breakfast afterwards to really experience the community... Along with a fantastic breakfast that is well worth queuing for.
Don't rock up here and expect to run in a forest, this is a developing woodland and it is so special to run here and look forward to visiting in a decade or so and see the difference. This is a parkrun that will grow along with your parkrun journey. These tiny trees were only planted in 2024 so they really are parkrun babies.
Huge thanks to the wonderful volunteer team for a brilliant parkrunday, I can't wait to see your community grow alongside your trees!
