A male Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris) visits the white flowers in an American Persimmon tree (Diospyros virginiana) at Sheldon Lake State Park, in Houston, TX, USA.
I usually see Hummingbirds visiting large, bright red, orange, or yellow flowers, but I suppose Hummingbirds will still occasionally sample other flowers. (It seems like Bees are more the right size to properly pollinate Persimmons.)
I also usually see Hummingbirds feeding as they hover, but in this video, it seems like the Hummingbird takes an opportunity to sit on a branch when it can still reach the flowers from a sitting position. I suppose that makes sense to rest as much as they can, but I'd just never seen them resting while feeding.
In the shade, the Hummingbird's ruby throat appears dark, but you can occasionally see glimmers of the iridescent red.
Note that the loudest call in the video is not from the Hummingbird, but from a Cerulean Warbler (Setophaga cerulea) migrating through this spot in the park with other birds this day.
