An Ovenbird (Seiurus aurocapilla) wipes its bill, hops from its perch, and starts to look for food on the ground at Smith Oaks Bird Sanctuary, in High Island, TX, USA.

High Island is one of the first spots of dry land that a lot of songbirds see after migrating north over the Gulf of Mexico in the spring, and they sometimes spend time in the sanctuaries here resting and feeding before continuing their journey north. There were winds from the north and heavy rains a couple of nights before, too. So that forced a lot of migrating birds to concentrate here.
