Corsican is a Romance language spoken on the island of Corsica, France, and northern Sardinia, Italy. It is part of the Italo-Dalmatian dialect continuum and is closely related to the Tuscan dialects, including Florentine-based standard Italian. Although classified as a regional language in France, scholars debate whether Corsican is more closely related to Centro-Southern Italian dialects or Tuscan varieties.
Campidanese Sardinian serves as one of the two written standards for the Sardinian language, renowned for its conservatism within the Romance language family. It draws from the spoken dialects of central southern Sardinia, distinguishing itself from Logudorese Sardinian by certain linguistic traits. This variant is marked by distinctive phonetic and grammatical features, shaped by historical influences from Latin, Catalan, Spanish, and Italian.
