On December 16, 2013, my daughter Kristin and I traveled to Santa Cruz for lunch and some site-seeing. Since I had lived there for a few years in my childhood back in the 1950's, she was interested in seeing some of the places I lived and played. We started at Natural Bridges State Beach, visited the bluff above the San Lorenzo River opposite the Beach Boardwalk and ended up in Capitola where I lived for two years. Lunch at Zelda's was expensive and mediocre but filling. We walked up from the beach along Soquel Creek and visited the house where I lived from 1955 to 1956. Our visit ended back in Santa Cruz with a stop at Steamer Lane where we checked out the Surfer Statue that my cousin Brian Curtis helped create. We also took in the gaggle of wet-suited surfers riding the 3-5 foot waves off the cliffs.
