Do your refreshes turn into a tangled mess the second you start working through them? Texturizing, long-lasting gels are excellent for soft-finish and fine curls/waves but can be tough to refresh since they lack slip.

If I run into tangles during a refresh, dry hands alone won’t cut it. That’s when I’ll:
Spray a little leave-in into my hands
Add water to create a slippery mix
Lightly smooth over just the areas that need it
Not a full detangle. Just enough slip to work through a couple of knots without snagging.
Sometimes pieces need separating because I tried to force multiple curl clumps together. In that case, separating them back into their natural clumps actually looks more defined — even if it’s slightly smaller.
Oil is another option if you want softness without water, but for some hair types that can feel heavy fast.
Refreshing is about adjusting just enough — not overdoing it.
