Before you blame your bonnet, answer one question. What did your hair look like when you went to bed?
Most of the time it was already frizzy or falling apart before anyone got in bed. If that's you, this was never a sleep problem. You didn't have enough hold on wash day, and it broke down through the day. No sleep protection fixes that.
But if your curls genuinely looked good at bedtime and you woke up to a mess, now we're talking about friction. A cotton pillowcase works against you all night. Silk or satin is non-negotiable, and whatever you use has to actually stay on.
Protection keeps your hold from being disrupted. It cannot create hold that was never there.
