On a recent trip to Portland, OR, to visit family, I had a chance to stop by the Vancouver, WA, Amtrak station and gather some midday footage of the passing trains. You’ll hear two persistent background noises, the steady hum of nearby metal recycling plant and the whoosh of planes taking off from Portland International Airport.
In the space of about three hours, I captured two stack trains, one string of auto racks, a Amtrak Cascade Talgo and Amtrak’s Coast Starlight (details below).
1. UP SB stack train with all GE motive power
2. Amtrak Cascades train #504 from Portland to Seattle with a Siemens SC-44 on the point
3. UP NB stack train with a C45AH on the point and two SD70ACe’s behind
4. BNSF SB auto racks with an SD70Ace on the point followed by a C44-9W and an AC4400CW DPU
5. Amtrak SB Coast Starlight with two P42DC’s on the point
