President’s Day is great for railfanning. The local passenger trains are running a full weekday schedule and the roads are relatively clear of commuters. I hit the road at 6am to drive the 60 miles to Martinez, CA, where Amtrak Capitol Corridor and San Joaquin trains make several stops during the day. Throw in the Eastbound Zephyr, the Southbound Coast Starlight and an occasional freight and you have a great variety to record.
