On October 1, 2019, I traveled north a few miles to San Mateo to shoot video of CalTrain passing through town during the morning commute. Trains traveling south away from San Francisco are pulled by their locomotives while those headed north are pushed. Beginning at the depot and moving south there are five consecutive grade crossings just one block apart. That makes for a lot horn blowing as the trains move through town. For those shots taken looking north of the depot, notice the catenary infrastructure put in place a couple of years ago in anticipation of Caltrain’s electrification sometime in the near future.
