While visiting relatives in Portland, OR, I took a day trip north to Kelso, WA, to record passing trains at the Amtrak station. While there, I caught the southbound Amtrak Cascades traveling from Seattle to Los Angeles. Since the platform at Kelso is too short for the Cascades, the crew does a double spot to accommodate passengers in both the coaches and sleepers. I also recorded northbound Amtrak Cascades #504 headed from Portland to Vancouver, BC. The train was powered by a push/pull set of the new Siemens SC-44 locomotives recently placed in service.
