A westbound BNSF manifest train has stopped short of the grade crossing at Caliente. An eastbound stack train waiting in the siding to climb the grade to Tehachapi Summit needs more motive power to make the hill. The crews uncouple the first two westbound locomotives and move them down the mainline clear of the siding where the stack train waits. Next they uncouple the third unit, a GE C44-9W, and move it into the siding to become the lead unit on the stack train. Finally, they recouple the original two lead units to the westbound. In parts 2 and 3 you’ll see the two trains depart Caliente for their respective destinations.
