On October 21, 2019, I traveled to Fremont, CA, to record the afternoon commuter trains operated by Amtrak’s Capitol Corridor service and by the Altamont Commuter Express. The Capitol Corridor trains travel between Sacramento and San Jose while ACE operates between San Jose and Stockton, CA. This is the first time I’ve recorded those trains in the afternoon and quickly discovered that the sun was at a difficult angle to record. That’s why you’ll see me shooting from the trees and the deck of the Fremont station. The last three trains were shot just about sunset at the Mowery Avenue crossing in West Fremont. Capitol Corridor power is provided by EMD F59PHI and Siemens SC-44 locomotives while ACE relies on F40PH-3C locomotives from Morrison-Knudson and Motive Power.
