Wendy McFadden, the publisher of Messenger, the official publication of the Church of the Brethren has been Brethren for about 30 years having been raised Presbyterian. Born in South Korea and adopted when she was one-year-old, Wendy grew up in the Bay area of California and moved to Maryland when she was 16 years old.
She first met the Brethren while studying communications at Juniata College in Pennsylvania. As a member of the Deputation Club, she got a "good taste" of who the Brethren are and found that "they are people who live the same all through the week as they do on Sunday."
Early this year, Wendy participated in the Sankofa Journey. She was paired with an African American and traveled together on a bus with others to civil rights sites across the South. This journey has been part of the Evangelical Covenant Church's commitment to becoming more multiracial.
