The September edition of Brethren Voices features Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community, which is the largest single-site non-profit senior-living-community in Pennsylvania and it’s the fifth-largest-retirement-community in the United States. Located near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, its history dates back, to 1908.
One of the activities established for fund raising in past years was the Apple Butter Making Festival. With this program we’re going to take a look, back, at several activities that still make Cross Keys Village, so special.
Among the many activities at the village is the model train club, built by residents of the village. This program shares some of the history of the various model trains of Cross Keys Village.
This Brethren Voices program also features the Dog Therapy program. Volunteers who have specially trained and certified therapy dogs, provide special visits to residents of the village.
Another unique story featured in the September program is the Stamp Club, made up of residents of the village. This club of Cross Keys residents has a long history of processing used postage stamps and selling them to a stamp dealer in New York City. Funds from the sale of the stamps, provide the funding for special projects of the village, that are deemed, “in need,” by the members of the stamp club.
