The Brethren, historically have attempted to do the things that make for peace. Years ago, a "Brethren Voices" program featured Chuck Boyer, who had been a pastor, a Moderator of Annual Conference and Director of Brethren Volunteer Service. He shared that following World War 2, the Brethren established a student exchange program that brought students from Germany, to live with families in the United States. It was quite controversial, but Chuck shared that having a German student in his home, changed his life. It gave him a greater understanding of the world.
Ed Groff, the producer of "Brethren Voices," recently attended a Seattle Mariners baseball game and happened to be sitting next to two young ladies who were viewing in their first Major League Baseball game. He didn't realized it, until the two young ladies began taking selfies of themselves and the baseball field in the background. When they returned to their seats, he asked the question, "Is this your first baseball game that you are attending?" Indeed it was. When asked, Where are you from? Morgana Lin stated that she was from Beijing China and was attending the University of Washington just a few miles to the north. It turns out that, Morgana has a Bachelor's degree in Business and just graduated with a Master's Degree in Law.
The whole thing, being so ironic as the leader of this country is conducting a "tariff war" on China and numerous other countries. As Chuck Boyer, years ago, found a new understanding of the greater world, Ed Groff found a friend that transcends tariff wars, in the friendly confines of a baseball game. When Morgan was asked about sharing her story with "Brethren Voices," she immediately said, "Yes!!!! I really never felt I had something that people would be interested in hearing. "
Jessica Huang, Jingdezhen Jiangxi Province, China and Morgana Lin, Beijing, China, join Brent Carlson, host of "Brethren Voices," to share the stories of being a student from China, while attending the University of Washington. "Brethren Voices," sharing the stories that make for peace.
