The cornerstone of the sanctuary reads 1905 …… for Harrisburg's First Church of the Brethren. It has been a mission of the congregation to serve the needs of the Allison Hill Community of Harrisburg, PA for over 109 years. The Allison Hill Community is an urban neighborhood, located on the edge of the inner city of the State Capital of Pennsylvania. First Church of the Brethren has provided some vital services in this neighborhood. It's totally committed to do what it can for this community.
Over the years there have been changes in the area. During the 1950's a discussion began about the possibility of relocating to the suburbs. "Not being of one mind," this Harrisburg congregation, in the 1960's decided to purchase land and plant the Ridgeway congregation in the northeastern part of the city. The church also made a commitment to expand its facilities to greater serve the Allison Hill Community. The services being provided today are leading to greater community involvement in the life of the church.
In a second segment of the program, "Brethren Voices" features a music video that presents the plight of the Nigerian Church of the Brethren, which has been terrorized several years. The video was produced and illustrated by David Sollenberger; the music was written by Scott Duffey and performed by the Bittersweet Gospel Band.
