"Brethren Voices" host, Brent Carlson interviews Jay Wittmeyer, Executive Director of Global Mission and Services for the Church of the Brethren. Small in size, the Church of the Brethren has in many ways been a part of the global community for many years. Following World War II, the church, together with the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration assisted the rebuilding of Europe. From 1945 - 1947, the Brethren Service Committee, together with the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration sent 73 ships of livestock and agricultural supplies to war-torn Europe.
Today, as a continuing ministry, Heifer International continues to provide livestock and agricultural training around the world. Jay Wittmeyer serves on the board of Heifer International. He discusses some of the ministries conducted by Global Mission and Services. Done in the context of responding to human need around the world, while witnessing to God’s love, the ministry falls into six broad categories: health and well-being, education, peace building, economic empowerment, agriculture development and church development.
Global Mission and Services provides support and ministry through: Brethren Disaster Ministries, Global Food Initiative, Brethren Volunteer Services, International Ministries, Material Resources, Office of Public Witness and Workcamps. Over the past 100 years, the Church of the Brethren has provided service and support in Nigeria, India, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Brazil, South Sudan, China, Spain, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo and North Korea.
This "Brethren Voices" program also features a special video, "Paradigm Shift - A Look: At The Total Eclipse Through The Eyes of Seth Ring," video producer of Portland's Metro East Community Media.
