"BRETHREN VOICES" FEATURES: MIKE STERN, FOLKSINGER,
SONG WRITER, COMPOSER, CERTIFIED LAUGHTER LEADER
Michael Stern is a Brethren Folksinger, songwriter, composer and “Certified Laughter Leader.” He has written 3 songbooks of original music, with his latest being, “Songs for Kids.” Mike has recorded thirteen albums & several singles. He is regularly featured as an artist at the annual Brethren Song & Story Fest.
During the war in Viet Nam, Mike was a draft resistor and was ordered to perform “alternative service.” As a Brethren Volunteer Service worker, he served in Dayton, Ohio, with an inner city Head Start School for children.
“Brethren Voices” Host, Brent Carlson interviews Mike about his song writing, which blends meaningful content and humor. Mike is often joined by a gifted group of musicians on the 13 albums, including Eric Smith, William Limbach, Grammy nominated pianist David Lantz and Jacob Jolliff (the National Mandolin Champion of 2012).
Mike sings recent released songs, “Kangaroos and Koalas Came Calling” and “Only Love Will Remain” in this edition of “Brethren Voices.” He accompanies himself on guitar. His song, “One World” concludes the program.
As a “Certified Laughter Leader,“ Mike shares, “laughter can be the best medicine,” according to ancient wisdom. He states that laughter and humor can be different, as some jokes that make fun of people are hurtful. A two-day training is designed to assist people on “How to Create Therapeutic Laughter.”
