Psycho Fox was a game my father at one time was desperately trying to buy 8 year old me after we rented it out so many times at our local video rental store, my heart sank with sadness when I saw that yellow tag across the cover bearing the words ''sorry i'm out, be back soon''. My dad eventually saw it on sale at a local game shop but at that time he didn't have the money so he thought he'd make another trip there once he had the money, once he had the money and went back to the shop Psycho Fox was gone! I had to go through most of my childhood not having this game in my collection and it wasn't until I was 14 that I first came across a used loose cartridge of this game and was finally able to buy it and own it. Looking back at this game I can see it is no spring chicken and is not as good as Sonic The Hedgehog or Alex Kidd In Miracle World, but it still deserves a place in the classic genre of 8-bit action platformers.
Psycho Fox is an adventure action platforming game centering around the many thrilling and entertaining escapades of a very special fox. Psycho Fox ventures into many strange worlds to conquer the strange beasts and boss monsters he encounters.
This game was developed by Vic Tokai who at that time in the late 1980's and early 1990's made alot of very similar action platformer games, the first was actually ''Kid Kool'' on the NES, then ''Psycho Fox'' on the SMS, then they made ''Magical Hat----'' on the Japanese NTSC Mega Drive followed by a western Mega Drive/Genesis release of ''Decap Attack'' which was a hack of ''Magical Hat Buttobi blah blah blah---''.
Everything was recorded from the actual game (except the Ending Credits track) which had to be slowed down by force at 17% in wave pad sound editor from a VGM file which may explain why it sounds a little weird, it's still better than hearing the actual camera take picures over the music. Listen carefully to the percussion in Skull Land and Mystical Mountains, the hi-hat rhythm goes into the next loop unlike the VGM files on the internet which is where everybody else records it from which just stops and repeats the same rhythm every loop.
I always found it strange that the snare drum in the percussion is really quiet in this game's soundtrack while the kick and hi-hats are at normal volume, it's just something that I find strange, no other Master System game that used these percussion sounds had this issue.
The music to this game is very high and tinny on the ears but very soothing. Nearly all the tracks have a section in them that sounds like a little girl's music box with a ballerina turning round.

Recorded from a real Sega Master System model 2 through it's RF out signal, it was then remastered through an equalizer for added bass and treble and carefully ripped to an audio CD-R disc and streamed back in the PAL Mega-CD II attachment.
