Hey guys, i've got another Sonic hack for you to download. This is nothing really new, it is ''Mobius Evolution'' from the 2015 Sonic hacking contest.
A slightly polished V3.7 with a typo fix and my name in the credits for the work and help I did (that was unfairly left out of the final 3.6) which is now the one you find on reproduction carts and everywhere on the net for 8 years now.
There was a bit of drama and miscommunication hiding behind the final version of this ROM hack and yes, it involved me.
Back in September of 2015 I was personally notified by one of the game's secondary programmers by the name of ''HCKTROX'' who must have watched some of my old videos on me showing off a bunch of broken Sonic hacks on my EverDrive. Anyway he asked me if i'd like to test a secret build of the game for any bugs that might appear and I agreed to it but I asked him to credit me in the credit screen if I was to help bug test the secret build. He knew I was one of the very few at that time to have the top of the line Mega EverDrive X7 from Krikzz upon release and he knew I was passionate about getting Sonic hacks to work properly on real hardware. I can only assume that it was for these reasons as well as the fact that he watched my video on showing broken games not working properly was why I was asked. If I was to find any inconsistencies then I was to report them straight to HCKTROX and HCKTROX only, he also told me that he didn't want any of the other team members (especially the boss Abyssal Leopard) to know that I was working on the game in the form of beta bug testing. Anyway I did find a bad bug that would crash the game and wouldn't allow you to continue, in the 4th Special Stage when playing as Blaze the Cat, exiting the stage via a goal block or touching the emerald would cause the game to crash on the very last frame when it fades out to a complete white screen. I reported this to HCKTROX and he told me that he wasn't sure if he could fix it, after that I never heard from him again and the game came out completely finished a month later in October 2015 and guess what? No credit what so ever on the game's staff roll screen. My name was no where to be seen and it left me feeling pissed off about it. It was another ''Sonic 1 The Next Level use my services but don't credit me'' dick move, but there was nothing I could do and whinging about it was not going to change anything so I had to let it go, until now that is....
I myself have personally put my name in the credits under BETA TESTING where it was supposed to go in the final. I also fixed one of the typos on the first screen, ''Successfly'' has been fixed to say ''Successfully'' the ROM header date is now changed to Jan 2023 instead of Oct 2015 to indicate that you guys got this ROM from me and not Sonic Retro/SSRG/AmyRosePlaythroughs and or Razor & Zenon. The checksum was screwed up once I hacked into this displaying the red screen but I have fixed it all up now and it works perfectly on real hardware and emulation.
Surprisingly if you visit the Sonic Retro page of ''Mobius Evolution'' my name is mentioned under Beta testing - real hardware which was only put there because by chance another team member read a comment of mine on another video of me explaining how I never got credited for finding that bug in special stage 4 with Blaze and on the bug-testing, yet the game had already been out for several years with no change. info.sonicretro.org/Mobius_Evolution
Lastly: This was not an ego wanking love joy to myself, i'm quite humble and enjoy crediting people for their works on all my videos I make, whether it be music, games or whatever, this was simply about correcting the wrongs of the past and giving credit where it was truly due. So hope you lot enjoy it, if you don't then feel free to stick to the usual ROM plastered all over the net. I don't really care, there's no game play changes or tweaks, it really is just a typo fix and my name in the credits. I just felt it was something I had to release to the public before I disappear someday. If Abyssal Leopard or anyone come after me for altering this hack i'm gonna defend my actions.
