This is a CD album paying tribute to one of Youtube's longest serving pioneers of the retro video game music scenes ''TheLegendofRenegade''. He is still converting video game and popular retail music to the SEGA Mega Drive sound format today and should always be respected for his great talent.
Now the story starts like this:
Imagine opening up a vortex like on the show ''Sliders'' and travelling to another almost identical universe to discover that the only difference in the world was that for Sonic 3 & Knuckles on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, SEGA Sonic Team kept the same drum kit from the first two Sonic games and gave the soundtrack different instruments? So although Masato Nakamura and his royalty demands to come back and do a third Sonic game soundtrack were ignored by SEGA, they still kept the Yukifumi Makino/Hiroshi Kubota sound arrangements.
Well that's where TheLegendofRenegade comes in to make that universe a possible reality! In 2012 Renegade made an album series called ''Sonic Super Sexy Mindfuck Volumes 1 & 2'' of Sonic music where the alternate sounds of the first two games continued onto the third and fourth and where Sonic 3 & Knuckles instruments were also used in Sonic 1 & 2.
This CD album (what you're actually listening to) is a compilation of what I think is the best tracks from his second album called ''Sonic Super Sexy Mindfuck Volume 2''. Of course there are more really good great tracks from Renegade but I picked what I thought at the time and still think is the best music tracks to go on the CD. If it wasn't for the 80 minute recording time limit I would have put more tracks on the album compilation but I squished in as much as I could (which in reality is only a good half of it all). I did think of making a double CD album so to fit the entire lot but at the time I wasn't a fan of double CD albums and opted to make only a single budget audio CD album.
I really like the harder sound of the drums on this album, Renegade made them sound a tad louder than they would normally sound in a Mega Drive/Genesis game and it helps get you pumped up. All the usual FM bass guitar patches are back like that twangy, springy bass, the rough twanga bass with oscillator, slap loose bass (you can hear this one in the Flying Battery and Sandopolis tracks) and everything else.
NOTES: I didn't like Renegade's Launch Base 2 rendition so I chose something more similar to the original.
Track 14 is a mystery? I'm not sure how Ristar got on this disc yet again and i'm not sure what I was thinking at the time but it is what it is. If you don't like it just skip to the next track.
I made this CD in 2013, only a year after TheLegendofRenegade put them up on Youtube.
