Time for the final two floors of Black Tower and Haxorus remains my most consistent lead for this purely for the immediate threat to non-steel types of Outrage or set up potential of Dragon Dance.
We had our first legendary Pokémon in Area 8, Area 9 has 2.
HIs Lead Chople Berry Hydreigon is accompanied by an Ice Gem Articuno, and a Life Orb Entei. Stealth Rocks did a decent amount to Articuno (50%) and Entei (25%) on switch-in.
Benga is the Boss of Area 10, as it to be expected. What kind of is unexpected, but appreciated is that he gets Alder's theme (more unexpected because Alder didn't have it in his battle in this game).
Steakth Rocks lead is good here.
He may only have one Legendary Pokémon but it's a white Herb Latios, and it's complemented by a Life Orb Garchomp and a Focus Sash Volcarona.
He has the three Pokémon I'm going to be using in PWT, although my sets aren't massively different in theory, everyone gets a set up move.
His Volcarona has Fire Blast over Flamethrower and a Focus Sash over the splashable utility of Rocky Helmet to punish physical attackers whils it sets up. His Latios goes all out with 4 attacks, and wants to spam Draco Meteor, which is why it has White Herb. He does have the BoltBeam locked in on it too, just the Beam part being Icy Wind for utility (although with the speed of these Pokémon it isn't really needed).
His Garchomp isn't too dissimilar from what I'll run, he has Outrage, Edge/Quake and Fire Blast. I'll swap Outrage for Dragon Rush, and Fire Blast for Hone Claws. Hone Claws gives Dragon Rush exactly 100% accuracy, (and Stone Edge over 100% at 108%). Dragon Rush being slightly weaker but not being a lock-in move and having a 20% Flinch chance is something worth looking into. Dragon Claw with Swords Dance is more powerful, but again that flinch on potential Sturdy/Focus Sash users can help - you'll often find +1 Dragon Rush doing enough damage, regardless.
So I'm mentioning Garchomp, and obviously don't have one, and it can't be caught. Head to Flocessy Town and speak with Benga to receive a Shiny Gible gift. I reset until I get one that doesn't hinder speed or attack. I could have specifically gone for Adamant, but Garchomp even with the nature it had is dealing enough damage. There's an argument for Jolly Nature too, but again the one battle that's most important would have Garchomp only at a speed tie even if I somehow bothered to get a max Speed IV and max out Speed EVs. Which should probably give away exactly which trainer in the PWT I'm talking about
So I've focused on a Black 2 perspective, if you played this on White 2 using a transferred Key you would not get a Shiny Gible, nor would you face Benga - you would face Benga in White Treehollow and receive a Shiny Dratini for clearing that.
In Area 10 you would instead encounter Janna as the boss, and she would have a Ganlon Berry Suicune, an Air Balloon Heatran, and the same Latios as Benga but in the back this time.
Likewise, the main reason I don't bother doing White Treehollow on this Black 2 playthrough is because the reverse is true, I wouldn't encounter Benga, and I wouldn't receive the Shiny Dratini. It would just be an experience gauntlet of trainers that I would crush after going through Black Tower.
I'm not a fan of Shiny Gible, but I like the more subtle colouration it has as a Garchomp. Most of the shinies I like can be bundled into a few categories (I don't like most shinies), subtle colouration changes like Garchomp, Articuno, Gengar. The rusty and purer looking steels, the first for thematic reasons, and the second aesthetic (shiny Steelix v shiny Magneton for example). The next category would be most grass types, they're already green, so look nice shiny - outside maybe Tangela/Tangrowth. Fire types mainly look pretty nice too.
Now we just have the various competitions of PWT left. I grind Gible up off screen until it's a Garchomp with Dragon Rush.
There's three tournament classes, the Leader Tournament which you pick from the specific regions and face those Gym Leaders in a 3 round system similar to the main game (they all have this 3 round system). You'll need to beat every region once to unlock the next Tournament.
The next tournament will be the World Leaders Tournament where you can face Gym Leaders from any region. You need to beat this TEN TIMES to unlock the final tier, the Champions Tournament which is the main reason to keep playing to be honest.
For the Champions Tournament I'll do one run through and have an extra video showing the 4 extra opponents just in a spliced video of when I finally get to face them.
